Balchik, Coastal resort town in northeastern Bulgaria
The city extends across white limestone terraces along the Black Sea coast, featuring narrow beach strips and secluded coastal areas beneath high cliffs.
Founded in the 6th century BCE by Thracians, Balchik developed into a major wheat export port before transforming into a tourist destination.
The Balchik Palace complex, built between 1924 and 1931, combines Italian architectural elements with local traditions through its central tower and seaside structures.
Regular buses connect Balchik to Varna International Airport, located 31 kilometers south, while local taxis provide transportation to nearby golf courses.
The botanical garden houses over 250 cactus species, forming the second largest collection in Europe, with 400 protected plant varieties.
