Balchik Palace, Royal summer palace and botanical garden in Balchik, Bulgaria
The palace complex contains multiple residential buildings, terraced gardens, a wine cellar, a power station, a monastery, and a chapel along the Black Sea coast.
Queen Marie of Romania commissioned the palace between 1926 and 1937 during the period when Southern Dobruja belonged to the Romanian kingdom.
Italian architects Americo and Augustino designed the palace incorporating Balkan and Ottoman Turkish architectural elements, reflecting Queen Marie's interest in diverse religious traditions.
The site requires separate entrance tickets for the palace and botanical gardens, with peak visiting times from May to July when flowers reach full bloom.
The botanical garden features Europe's second-largest outdoor cactus collection, spanning 1,000 square meters and containing specimens from 85 different plant families.
