Serra do Tepequém

Serra do Tepequém is a forested mountain in northern Brazil that rises to approximately 1,000 meters with multiple waterfalls flowing into natural pools. Hiking trails wind through the terrain, offering access to different parts of the landscape.

Diamond mining operations during the 1940s and 1950s left visible marks across the mountain and altered its landscape. This period of extraction shaped the physical features that visitors see today.

Local communities have historically tied their daily lives and livelihoods to the mountain's resources and pathways. This relationship continues to shape how people interact with and move through the landscape today.

The drier period from September through March is best for hiking, with more comfortable temperatures and clearer conditions at waterfalls. Bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water to handle the steep terrain safely.

A striking rock formation called Hand of God juts out over a cliff edge, creating a natural viewing platform high above the landscape below. This geological feature offers visitors a surprising vantage point that few discover on their own.
