Bay Adelaide Centre, skyscraper in Toronto, Canada
Bay Adelaide Centre is a building complex in Toronto's Financial District with three contemporary towers completed between 2009 and 2022. The structures feature glass and clean lines, with the tallest tower reaching 218 meters high and providing over 100,000 square meters of office space.
Plans for this site date back to the 1980s, but construction did not begin until 2007 following economic delays. The first phase was completed in 2009, while the final phase with the Scotiabank tower finished in 2022.
The name comes from Bay Street and Adelaide Street, where the complex sits at their intersection. Today it serves as a major gathering point for business activity and shows how contemporary architecture shapes daily life in Toronto's financial core.
The complex connects to the PATH pedestrian network, which offers an underground route through the city and is especially useful in poor weather. Nearby you will find shops, restaurants, and a food market, plus a parking garage with exits on Adelaide and Richmond Streets.
The complex contains a large artwork by renowned American artist James Turrell in the lobby that creates a special perception experience through light and color. Additionally, the historic facade of a 1926 building was integrated into the modern structure, preserving a piece of Toronto's architectural heritage.
