Parry Sound District, Administrative district in Northern Ontario, Canada
The Parry Sound District spans 9,322 square kilometers of land between Lake Nipissing and Georgian Bay, with forests and lakes across its territory.
The district established in 1870 developed through the century with the introduction of railway services and the creation of the Forest Fire District in 1922.
The district encompasses territories of the Anishinaabeg communities, including Wasauksing, Shawanaga, Magnetawan, Dokis, and Henvey Inlet First Nations under the Robinson-Huron Treaty.
The district provides governmental services directly through local municipalities or provincial administration, without a regional municipality level of government.
Fire tower lookouts across the district formed a network of 21 stations that protected forests through triangulation methods to detect and locate fires.
