Branksome Hall, school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Branksome Hall is an independent girls' school in Toronto serving students from kindergarten through Grade 12. The campus in Rosedale spans multiple buildings with classrooms, science laboratories, gymnasiums, salt-water pools, tennis courts, and a new creative facility called iCAST featuring theater and innovation spaces.
The school was founded in 1903 by Margaret Scott, who served as its first principal. Named after Branxholme, a Scottish castle from Walter Scott's works, it evolved from its original residence to an expanded campus with modern facilities.
The school's name comes from a Walter Scott poem about the Scottish castle Branxholme. The uniform tradition, with younger students in tunics and older ones in kilts, remains a visible symbol of school pride and heritage that varies by grade level.
The campus is located in Rosedale and is accessible by car or public transport. Large outdoor spaces allow students to spend time outside during breaks and after school.
Each year students exchange visits with Sherborne Girls' School in England, staying with families and experiencing different ways of living. The school is also proud of alumni who have become international leaders, including an aspiring Olympic skier and social entrepreneurs.
