Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, Freedom museum in Chatham-Kent, Canada.

The Buxton National Historic Site and Museum contains an 1861 schoolhouse, an 1854 log cabin, and a barn displaying artifacts from early Black settlers.

Reverend William King established the Elgin Settlement in 1849 by purchasing 9,000 acres of crown land to create a refuge for escaped slaves.

The museum exhibits demonstrate the journey of former slaves through original artifacts, including shackles and a wooden transportation crate from the period.

The museum complex maintains regular visiting hours throughout the year and provides guided tours led by descendants of the original settlement residents.

The site features one of Ontario's last standing 19th-century schoolhouses where Black students received education during the settlement period.
