Bata Shoes Head Office, Corporate office building in North York, Ontario, Canada
The modernist headquarters features white pavilion-like architecture with concrete and glass elements, positioned on a hill at Don Valley Parkway and Eglinton Avenue East intersection.
Architect John B. Parkin completed this structure in 1965 as the North American base for Bata Shoes, which began operations in Czechoslovakia during 1894.
The Toronto Society of Architects selected this building among 96 notable structures constructed between 1953 and 2003, recognizing its architectural significance.
The building maintained its headquarters function until 2003, when operations transferred to Lausanne, Switzerland, while maintaining Toronto offices for the Power footwear brand.
The Aga Khan Foundation acquired the property in 2002 for 300 million dollars to construct an Ismaili Centre, museum of Islamic art, and public park.
