Tip Top Tailors Building, Art Deco commercial structure on Lake Shore Boulevard West, Toronto, Canada
The Tip Top Tailors Building is an Art Deco structure featuring cast decorative elements and colored mosaic bands across its exterior walls. A neon rooftop sign faces Lake Ontario and marks the building's presence along Lake Shore Boulevard West.
The structure was built in 1929 to house the Tip Top Tailors Ltd manufacturing operation, founded a generation earlier by Polish-Jewish immigrant David Dunkelman. In 2002, it transitioned from a factory to residential lofts while preserving its historic exterior.
The building shows how industrial spaces have transformed into homes for city living while keeping their original character. Visitors can see how a working factory has become a place where people live today, blending past and present together.
The building sits directly on Lake Shore Boulevard and is easy to reach on foot from street level. Units feature high ceilings and come with parking spots, plus access to rooftop areas for outdoor activities and gatherings.
The front of this building served as the police department headquarters throughout the television series Monk, making it a recognizable location for fans of the show. Many episodes were filmed using this exterior as a backdrop for the fictional police building.
