Pipestone River Provincial Park

Pipestone River Provincial Park is a large wilderness area in northern Ontario shaped by multiple river systems and extensive sand dunes across the landscape. The terrain remains undeveloped and largely remote, accessible primarily to experienced paddlers and backcountry travelers.

A Hudson's Bay Company trading post called Big Beaver House operated within the park from 1911 until the company relocated it to Wunnummin Lake in 1965. This relocation marked the end of organized fur trading activity in the area.

The park preserves traditional waterways that feature thirty-seven distinct sets of rapids, ranging from Class 1 to Class 5+ in technical difficulty.

Visitors need solid wilderness navigation and whitewater paddling experience, as the park offers no developed facilities or services of any kind. Careful planning and self-sufficiency are essential for any visit to this remote location.

The land contains curved sand dunes reaching about 15 meters high, shaped by winds from the west and located east of the Agutua Moraine. These dunes formed through natural geological processes over thousands of years.
