Montreal Tower, Observation tower in Olympic Park, Montreal, Canada
Montreal Tower is a 175-meter observation tower made of reinforced concrete and steel in Olympic Park, Montreal, Canada. The structure leans at a 45-degree angle and is anchored to the adjacent stadium.
The tower opened in 1973 during the construction of the Olympic Stadium for the 1976 Summer Games. The design came from French architect Roger Taillibert, who conceived the entire stadium project.
The tower takes its name from its connection to the Olympic Stadium and now serves as a popular vantage point for locals and travelers alike. From the platform, you can pick out different neighborhoods, the St. Lawrence River, and the surrounding mountains.
The structure remains closed for renovation work until fall 2026, when the funicular system will be upgraded and new glass-enclosed viewing areas created. Visitors should check official park announcements for reopening updates.
The funicular inside runs along a curved track while staying level throughout the two-minute ride. This system is the only one of its kind in the world and carries up to 50 people at once.
