Maisonneuve Park, Urban park in Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, Canada.
Maisonneuve Park is a large urban park in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec, covering around 80 hectares of open land. It features a dedicated cycling path, walking trails, wide open lawns, and sits next to the Montreal Botanical Garden.
The park was laid out in 1910 and originally included a golf course that was later removed. During the 1970s, parts of the land were taken over for the construction of the Olympic Stadium, which shaped the park as it looks today.
Until 2015, the park hosted the main Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day celebrations for the city, with open-air concerts drawing large crowds from across Montreal. Today it serves as an everyday meeting point for the neighborhood, where people jog, cycle, and walk their dogs throughout the week.
The park is served by several bus stops and is open daily until midnight, so it can be visited at different times of the day. Given the size of the grounds, it helps to choose an entrance closest to the area you want to explore before arriving.
During summer, sheep are brought in to graze on parts of the lawn as a natural way to manage the grass. Seeing a small flock in the middle of a city neighborhood is something most visitors do not expect.
