Dow Planetarium, Planetarium in Olympic District, Montreal, Canada.
The Dow Planetarium is an astronomy venue in Montreal, Canada, housing two dome theaters named Chaos and Milky Way. Each theater uses projection systems that cover the entire dome surface, surrounding visitors with images of space in every direction.
The original planetarium opened in 1966 at a different location in Montreal and operated there until 2011. It then moved to its current building in 2013, joining the Space for Life complex alongside other science institutions in the city.
Shows at the Dow Planetarium are presented in both French and English, which reflects everyday life in Montreal. This makes astronomy programs here accessible to a wide range of visitors without needing to choose one language over the other.
The planetarium is located on Pierre-de-Coubertin Avenue and is easy to reach by metro, as the Viau station is nearby. For those arriving by car, paid parking is available on-site.
The building holds a LEED Platinum certification, the highest level of sustainable building recognition in North America. This is rare among science venues, making the structure itself a notable example of contemporary construction.
