Fründenhütte, Mountain hut in Bern, Switzerland.
Fründenhütte is a mountain refuge in the Bernese Alps at 2562 meters elevation, positioned to overlook Öeschinensee lake and surrounding glaciers. The building provides sleeping rooms for hikers and serves as a stopping point on Alpine routes in this region.
The mountain refuge was built in 1936 by the Swiss Alpine Club to shelter climbers exploring the northern side of Doldenhorn. Since then it has served as a base for expeditions in this Alpine zone.
The hut keeps Alpine traditions alive through regional cooking and shared sleeping spaces where hikers spend the night together. This communal way of living shapes daily life at this mountain location.
A marked trail of nine kilometers leads from the Öeschinen cable car station to the hut, gaining about 670 meters in elevation over five hours of hiking. Visitors should plan adequate time and bring proper gear for this mountain walk.
A separate room for 14 people stays open during winter when the main facility is otherwise closed. This allows mountaineers to stay even in the cold season.
