Western Lyskamm

Western Lyskamm reaches an elevation of 4,479 meters with steep ice walls rising from the Grenz glacier on its northern face.

The first successful ascent of Western Lyskamm occurred on August 16, 1864, when Sir Leslie Stephen and Edward N. Buxton reached the peak.

The mountain forms part of the larger Lyskamm range, which local residents named after the Lys River flowing from its glacial formations.

Climbers access Western Lyskamm through established routes from either the Gnifetti Hut or the Monte Rosa Hut during summer months.

The peak connects to its parent mountain through a one-kilometer ridge that features numerous snow cornices along its length.
