Silvrettahütte, Mountain hut in Grisons, Switzerland
Silvrettahütte is a mountain hut located at 2341 meters on the southwestern edge of the Silvretta Glacier in the Swiss Alps. The main building contains 57 beds arranged in dormitories ranging from 4 to 20 places, along with a separate family room for 6 people.
The hut was founded in 1865 and has sheltered mountaineers exploring the Silvretta Alps for more than 150 years. Its role as a base for glacier expeditions has remained central to the region's climbing tradition.
The hut is run by the Swiss Alpine Club Section St. Gallen and serves as a gathering place for climbers from around the world. People with a passion for mountain exploration meet here and share experiences over meals and overnight stays.
The hut sits at high altitude and is accessible only on foot or with mountaineering equipment, so visitors should bring good fitness and appropriate gear. A dining area serves warm meals, hot beverages, and basic supplies for climbers.
Guests contribute to the hut's sustainability by carrying wood from Alp Sardasca up to the hut, which fuels the heating and cooking throughout the season. This shared task creates a meaningful connection between visitors and the mountain environment.
