Hollandia Hut, Mountain hut in Blatten, Switzerland.
Hollandia Hut is a mountain shelter at about 3,240 meters (10,630 feet) elevation in the Swiss Alps and accommodates around 80 mountaineers. It has sleeping quarters, a kitchen, and is supplied with water and heat throughout the year.
The shelter was founded in 1907 and has served since then as an important base for mountaineers exploring the glacier and surrounding peaks. Over the decades it has been expanded and modernized to meet the needs of alpine expeditions.
The hut takes its name from a historic shipping line and is run by the Swiss Alpine Club, which maintains alpine traditions here. Visitors encounter experienced mountaineers and feel the tight community among those spending time at this elevation.
The journey from Blatten takes several hours and requires mountaineering experience plus specialized equipment for glacier travel. It is wise to start early in the day and check weather conditions, as the route presents different conditions depending on the season.
The shelter provides access to six notable peaks in the region, including Aletschhorn, one of the highest mountains in the Alps. This makes it a favored starting point for mountaineers who want to combine multiple summit attempts in a single expedition.
