Lake of Émosson, reservoir
Lake of Émosson is a reservoir created by a dam in the Valais Alps. The water is fed by mountain streams and the lake sits at around 2,000 meters in elevation surrounded by steep rock faces.
The reservoir was completed in 1975 as a hydroelectric project to help supply power to the region. Its construction made use of the natural water flow from the high mountain peaks above.
The lake is reachable by mountain bike trails and hiking paths, mainly during summer and early autumn. The road can be steep and narrow so good weather and proper footwear are important for visiting.
