Bafoussam

Bafoussam sits on the Bamboutos Mountains at 1521 meters elevation, divided into neighborhoods such as Banengo, Djeleng, Famla, and Kamkop. The city features two main markets serving daily commerce and coffee processing facilities that support the regional economy.

The city was established by Presidential Decree in 2008, bringing together three separate communes: Bafoussam I, II, and III. This consolidation created a unified administrative center for the mountain region.

The city serves as the main center for the Bamileke people, with traditional palaces standing as gathering places for the community. These buildings anchor local identity and connect residents to their heritage.

The location sits at high elevation, so expect cooler temperatures and potentially rainy weather depending on the season. Visitors can easily find their way using the central markets as reference points, as they form the hub of daily life.

The city enjoys mild temperatures year-round, staying between 15 and 27 degrees Celsius due to its mountain position. This steady climate makes it comfortable for exploring the highland region without extreme heat or cold.
