Kwun Tong Pier, ferry pier complex in Hong Kong
Kwun Tong Pier is a ferry terminal on the eastern shore of the Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong, with direct views across Victoria Harbour. The terminal has open waiting areas, boarding gates, and a waterfront walkway that connects to the surrounding promenade.
The pier was built in the 1960s, when Kwun Tong was a busy industrial area and ferry transport was a main way to move across the harbor. As industry declined, ferry traffic dropped sharply, and the pier area was later redeveloped as part of a broader waterfront renewal.
The pier sits at the edge of a former industrial waterfront that is slowly being transformed into a public promenade. Locals often gather here in the evening to watch the harbor lights across Victoria Harbour.
The pier is within walking distance of Kwun Tong MTR station, and signs along the way point toward the waterfront. Going in the morning or late afternoon gives a calmer experience and better light over the harbor.
The original pier structure was demolished and replaced as part of a large waterfront redevelopment project, which means the current terminal is far newer than it looks in old photographs. The surrounding area was used as a filming location for several Hong Kong movies and music videos over the years.
