Lam Tin Public Library is a public library in the Lam Tin Complex in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong, spread across two floors with books, periodicals, and digital media. The floors are divided into separate zones, each aimed at a different age group or type of use.
The library opened on 8 October 1984 in the ground floor of Block 20 of Lam Tin Estate, with Elsie Tu officiating at the ceremony. Around 1991 a temporary branch opened in Tak Tin Estate. After years of rejected relocation proposals, it moved on 30 March 2013 into the Lam Tin Complex and was upgraded to a district library.
The library's name comes from Lam Tin Estate, where it opened on 8 October 1984 in the ground floor of Block 20; the ceremony was presided over by Elsie Tu. It later operated from a temporary site in Tak Tin Estate before the move to the Lam Tin Complex in 2013.
The library is inside the Lam Tin Complex and can be reached on foot from Exit A of Lam Tin MTR Station in just a few minutes. Opening hours can change on weekends and public holidays, so it is worth checking before you go.
The library's student study room opened in late November 2012, months before the main library itself began operating on 30 March 2013. The two-floor, 2,900-square-metre branch replaced earlier small libraries in Lam Tin Estate and Tak Tin Estate and opened with about 140,000 items.
