Alxa League, Administrative division in Inner Mongolia, China.
Alxa League is an administrative region in Inner Mongolia spanning desert territories divided into three banners: Left Banner, Right Banner, and Ejin Banner, with Bayanhot serving as the administrative center. The region covers vast areas of arid land where mining and resource processing operations are conducted.
The region received its current administrative structure in 1980 when it was established as a prefecture-level league within Inner Mongolia. This reorganization defined the boundaries and administrative relationships that remain in effect today.
Nomadic traditions remain visible in everyday life through local crafts, music, and how people relate to the desert landscape. These heritage practices shape community gatherings and the rhythm of seasonal activities across the three banners.
The region is sparsely populated, meaning distances between settlements are large and visitors need reliable transportation and preparation. Water and supplies should be planned in advance, as infrastructure in desert areas is limited.
Despite having the smallest population in the region, the league has achieved strong economic results through resource extraction and processing. This focus on mining and industrial operations has created unusual economic performance per resident.
