Helan Mountains

The mountains contain archaeological remains of the Western Xia Dynasty mausoleum, dating back to the ancient Tangut Empire that controlled this region.

Ancient rock paintings from the Shang and Zhou dynasties decorate the mountains, depicting nomadic life and religious practices of early inhabitants.

Multiple entry points and hiking routes lead to key features like Suyukou Forest Reserve, Mushroom-shaped Rock, and Stone Descended from Heaven.

The eastern base of the mountains supports 20,000 acres of vineyards, where major Chinese wine producers cultivate grapes in this emerging wine region.
