Pueblo Depot Activity, Military chemical storage facility near Pueblo, United States

Pueblo Depot Activity is a military installation in southern Colorado containing numerous concrete storage structures spread across its land. The facility was designed specifically for secure chemical storage and features both active and available spaces for other uses.

The installation was founded in 1942 as Pueblo Ordnance Depot to support military operations during World War II. Over time, its purpose shifted from ammunition storage to specialized chemical weapons management and eventual elimination programs.

The installation supports wildlife research partnerships that focus on protecting endangered species like the Black Footed Ferret and Burrowing Owl. Visitors can observe how military land serves conservation purposes that benefit local ecosystems.

The installation is extensive and requires advance planning to visit, as security restrictions limit public access to certain areas. Visitors should check beforehand what is available and arrange any necessary tours or permissions in advance.

This is one of only two remaining US military facilities dedicated specifically to chemical weapons storage and elimination. This role makes it a significant site for disarmament and environmental management efforts across the country.
