Hongfo Pagoda

Hongfo Pagoda is an octagonal brick structure in Helan County near Yinchuan in Ningxia, standing about 35 meters tall. The building combines a Tibetan-style upper section with a three-story base below.

The pagoda was built during the Western Xia period, which lasted from the 11th to the 13th century. Following serious damage to the structure, it underwent major restoration work in the 1980s.

The pagoda's name reflects its Buddhist roots and its role as a sacred site in the region's spiritual life. Visitors can observe how the architecture combines different religious traditions in its design, showing how faith shaped the way this structure was built.

The site is located in a rural area and requires over one hour of travel from Yinchuan. Plan accordingly for the journey and check directions beforehand to ensure a smooth visit.

During renovation work in the 1990s, workers uncovered painted earthenware vessels, wooden figures, silk paintings, and ancient coins hidden inside. These discoveries reveal how many treasures lay concealed within the structure and offer glimpses into the craftspeople who built this site.
