Nanguan Mosque, Islamic religious complex in Xingqing District, China.
Nanguan Mosque is a place of Islamic worship in Xingqing District with five green domes and two tall minarets that rise above the surrounding area. The main building spreads across two levels and holds prayer halls, classrooms, and meeting spaces throughout its floors.
An earlier structure from the Ming period was moved to the Nanguan area in the early 1900s, disappeared for many decades, and was rebuilt in the 1980s as it stands today. This renewal made it an important place for the Muslim community once again.
The name comes from the district where it stands, and the spaces reflect how Islamic life is organized in the community. Visitors notice the separate areas for men and women at prayer, which shows how worship is woven into daily practice.
The prayer halls are open to visitors, but you should know that active prayer times may limit access to some areas for tourists. It helps to wear respectful clothing and ask staff about guidelines when you arrive.
At the center of the grounds sits a large fountain surrounded by gardens that creates a calm spot for reflection. Two elegant spiral staircases wind their way up to the main prayer spaces and shape the visual experience as you enter.
