Stele of Liangzhou

The Stele of Liangzhou is a stone monument in Wuwei that dates from the 11th century and carries detailed inscriptions. The piece displays careful stonework with historical texts that have remained well preserved across the centuries.

The monument was erected in 1094 to commemorate repairs to the Gantong stupa at Huguo Temple during the time of the Western Xia Dynasty. This date marks an important moment when the region was under the rule of this dynasty.

The monument displays text in both Tangut and Chinese scripts, documenting the exchange between different peoples along the Silk Road. These bilingual inscriptions allow visitors to directly experience the cultural connections of this historical region.
