Fudan University, Public university in Yangpu District, Shanghai, China
Fudan University ranks among the country's top higher education institutions and spreads across four main areas in the northern and central parts of the city. The different locations house faculties for natural sciences, humanities, medicine, and technical fields, each occupying large grounds with modern buildings and research facilities.
A Chinese Jesuit priest founded the institution in 1905 as a private educational establishment with the goal of combining Western knowledge with traditional Chinese studies. Several renaming and reorganization efforts followed throughout the 20th century, until the institution came under state control in 1949.
The university maintains partnerships with international institutions, offering joint MBA programs with MIT Sloan School of Management and BI Norwegian Business School.
The main locations lie some distance from each other and can be reached by public transport or bicycle. Visitors should note that certain areas function as academic grounds and may be accessible only to staff and students.
The institution operates its own cloud-based scientific computing platform, among the largest of its kind in the country. It also plans to open its first international campus outside China, set to launch in Budapest.
