Shanghai Municipal Museum, Municipal museum in central Shanghai, China
The Shanghai Municipal Museum contains five floors dedicated to Chinese art, with galleries showcasing bronzes, ceramics, paintings, and traditional calligraphy pieces.
The institution started in 1952 and moved to its current location in People's Square during 1996, featuring a building design based on Chinese earth-heaven principles.
The museum displays over 120,000 artifacts spanning from Neolithic periods through Chinese dynasties, including Ming vases and Longshan Black Pottery collections.
Visitors can explore eleven main galleries organized in chronological order, making it simple to follow the progression of Chinese artistic developments.
The collection includes life-sized terracotta statues from Emperor Qin Shihuangdi's tomb, featuring two warriors and a horse from the archaeological site.
