Hong Kong Coliseum, Multi-purpose entertainment hall in Hung Hom Bay, Kowloon, China.
The Hong Kong Coliseum is a rectangular indoor hall in Hung Hom, Kowloon. Its roof rests on four massive corner pillars, leaving the interior completely free of support columns and ensuring clear sightlines from every seat.
Planning started in the early seventies and after eight years of construction the building opened officially in April 1983. Over the following years it grew into one of the main entertainment venues in Asia.
Locals call this venue the Hung Hom Gymnasium in Cantonese, reflecting its roots as a sports facility. Today it serves mainly as a concert hall where major artists perform and graduates walk across the stage during ceremonies.
The hall sits a short walk from Hung Hom metro station and is accessible through wide entrances. It helps to arrive early since long queues often form before events begin.
The floor can support loads of 1800 kilograms per square meter, allowing unusually heavy stage setups. A separate reception area can hold up to 60 guests during special occasions.
