Hong Kong Observatory, Government meteorological building in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, China

The Hong Kong Observatory headquarters contains two floors with arched windows, long verandas, and modern operational facilities for weather monitoring and research.

Founded in 1883 by Governor Sir George Bowen, the institution changed its name from Royal Observatory Hong Kong to Hong Kong Observatory after the 1997 sovereignty transfer.

The Observatory engages with over 7,000 members through the Friends of the Observatory program, offering guided tours and science education to students.

The facility operates radar systems, automatic weather stations, and satellite technology to track weather patterns and issue warnings for tropical cyclones.

The original nineteenth-century building maintains its administrative function while incorporating contemporary meteorological equipment for current weather forecasting operations.
