Central Piers, Ferry terminal complex in Central, Hong Kong.
Central Piers is a complex of ten adjacent jetties on Victoria Harbour, serving as departure points for ferry connections between Hong Kong Island and surrounding areas. The piers stretch along the Central waterfront and form a long row of covered waiting areas with access to the water.
The current complex was built to replace earlier piers that were relocated or renewed from 2006 onward as part of the redesign of the harbor area. This transformation fundamentally changed the Central shoreline and created new access routes to the harbor.
The piers carry numbers and names that reference former routes and islands, giving travelers a sense of Hong Kong's maritime connections while waiting for departures. Each pier has its own rhythm, depending on whether commuters are heading to work or tourists are setting out for the islands.
Pier number 7 operates the Star Ferry line to Tsim Sha Tsui, while other piers offer routes to Discovery Bay, Lantau Island, and Cheung Chau. Most departures run frequently during the day, with fewer connections in the evening.
Pier 8 houses a museum dedicated solely to seafaring, using objects and documents to trace the development of the harbor. Visitors can follow how shipping changed over the decades.
