Xianshen Lou

Xianshen Lou is a temple in Jiexiu built in a pavilion style with traditional Chinese design and careful craftsmanship evident throughout. The structure features multiple chambers and decorated elements that reflect the architectural practices of its time.

The temple was built during the Song Dynasty to serve as a place of worship for Zoroastrian followers. It later changed its religious function and became a Taoist monastery in the centuries that followed.

The temple shows how Zoroastrian beliefs and Chinese building traditions came together in one space. You can see this mixture in the architectural details and the way the rooms are organized throughout the structure.

The site is open daily for visitors who want to explore the historical chambers and architectural features up close. Allow time to walk through the different areas and take in the structural details at your own pace.

This is the only surviving Zoroastrian building remaining in China and was granted national protection status in 1996. The recognition reflects how rare and important this structure is as a record of this particular faith tradition in the country.
