Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre, Sports complex in Longgang District, China.
Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre is a multi-venue sports complex featuring a main stadium, an indoor arena, and a swimming facility connected across the grounds. The main stadium's most distinctive element is its crystalline roof with triangular facets and illuminated translucent walls, giving the structure a modern geometric appearance.
The complex came into being following a design competition won by an international architectural firm in 2007, with the facility opening to the public in 2011. Since its completion, the venue has become a major gathering place for regional and international sports events.
The design draws inspiration from Chinese garden traditions and southern China's bamboo forests, which are reflected in how the steel structures frame the spaces. Visitors walking through notice how these natural references shape the overall experience of the complex.
The complex is well-connected by public transport and has ample parking available for visitors arriving by car. The different venues are linked by walkways and outdoor spaces, making navigation straightforward for most guests.
In 2018, the facility hosted a professional ice hockey exhibition game between two North American teams, marking one of the rare occasions when this venue expanded its focus beyond traditional Asian sports. This event highlighted how the space can accommodate different types of international competition.
