Ap Lei Pai

Ap Lei Pai is a rocky island in Hong Kong's Southern District that connects to Ap Lei Chau through a natural sandbar when the tide goes out. This temporary link creates a walking route that crosses between the two pieces of land.

The island has remained largely untouched throughout Hong Kong's urban transformation, preserving part of the region's original geography. A lighthouse was built here to aid shipping traffic in these waters.

The lighthouse standing on the island serves as a navigation guide for vessels passing through the East Lamma Channel. Visitors who trek here experience how this practical structure has become part of the local maritime landscape.

Getting to the island requires careful planning around tide schedules, since the sandbar is only accessible when the tide is low. Bring proper hiking gear for the journey, as there are no facilities or emergency services along the route.
