Diphu Pass, Mountain pass at Indo-China-Myanmar border point, India and China
Diphu Pass is a mountain pass at the border of India, China, and Myanmar, situated at an elevation of about 4,587 meters (15,050 feet). The steep slopes surrounding the pass create a harsh and remote high-altitude terrain.
The pass was established as a border point between China and Burma in 1960, marking an important moment in regional boundary discussions. This designation affected border issues between all three neighboring nations.
The mountain pass functions as a traditional trading passage where merchants from different regions exchange salt, textiles, and local goods.
Access to the pass comes through the nearest road point at Dong in Arunachal Pradesh, which lies several dozen kilometers away. Travel requires planning since the area is remote and difficult weather conditions are common.
The pass stands as part of the McMahon Line, extending from this point to Isu Razi Pass, marking critical international boundaries.
