Biandukou is a mountain pass in the Altyn-Tagh range situated between Gansu and Qinghai provinces at an elevation above 3,500 meters. The crossing links Minle County in the north to Qilian County in the south through rugged high-altitude terrain.
In 609 AD, during the Sui dynasty, an official procession led by Emperor Yang passed through this crossing known then as Dadoubagu. The journey proved deadly for many due to severe weather that swept across the high terrain.
