Yuquan Campus, Zhejiang University, University campus in Hangzhou, China
Yuquan Campus is a university grounds covering 136 hectares on the northwest side of West Lake in Hangzhou, surrounded by several hills. It houses departments in physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, and computer science, each with dedicated facilities and research spaces.
The campus was established in 1956 as an academic center for Zhejiang University. A key structure is the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall of Science, a donation from a prominent Hong Kong media figure that became an important symbol on these grounds.
Students and scholars from around the world gather here for exchange and collaboration, shaping how the campus functions as a meeting point between different academic traditions. The daily rhythm of the grounds reflects this mix of international and local perspectives in how spaces are used and shared.
The grounds offer multiple entrances and open areas that make it easy to walk through different sections at your own pace. The layout is spread out across the hills, so comfortable walking shoes and time to explore are helpful.
One of China's largest botanical gardens sits on these grounds, with collections of plant species used for research and teaching. This garden is often overlooked by visitors despite offering both scientific resources and a quieter place to walk among the plants.
