Guangxiao Temple, Buddhist temple in Chengxiang District, China

Guangxiao Temple is a major Buddhist temple in Chengxiang District featuring multiple halls arranged in traditional Chinese style with wooden beams and tiled roofs. The main hall contains a large Buddha statue and the grounds include several smaller structures and shrines arranged around central courtyards.

The site originated in the 3rd century when a family donated their estate to establish a monastery that eventually became this temple. During the Southern Han dynasty, major construction took place and religious structures were added that made it an important center.

The temple functions as an active center for Buddhist practice, where monks conduct daily ceremonies and maintain the spiritual traditions of Chinese Buddhism. Visitors can observe these practices and witness how the community continues these customs today.

The temple grounds are accessible by various forms of transportation and multiple entrances allow convenient arrival from different directions. Inside, pathways are clearly marked and visitors can explore the different areas and structures with ease.

Two iron pagodas from the Southern Han dynasty stand on the grounds and are among the oldest surviving iron towers in China. These structures demonstrate advanced metalworking techniques from a distant historical period.
