Asia Society Hong Kong Center

The Asia Society Hong Kong Center occupies former British military buildings that now contain exhibition galleries, a restaurant, and event spaces. The site connects these historic structures with modern pathways and stairs that link the different buildings throughout the grounds.

The buildings served as ammunition storage for the British Army from 1843 to 1874 and were constructed with earth mounds between structures to contain potential explosions. After this military period, they were later transformed into a cultural center.

The center displays Asian art and hosts performances, films, and discussions that visitors can join throughout the year. These gatherings create spaces where people from different backgrounds meet and exchange ideas naturally.

The center sits on a hillside in Admiralty and is reachable by walking from Central Station or by car. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds feature stairs and pathways that wind between the buildings.

During restoration, some of the original earth mounds were kept and remain visible in the landscape if you look closely. These remnants show how past safety measures were woven into the site's modern design.
