Ancient WongPou Port

Ancient WongPou Port is a historic maritime location along the Pearl River Delta in Guangzhou, featuring traditional Lingnan buildings, old piers, and structures from the Qing Dynasty era. The site spreads along the river and preserves the physical remains of its former trading operations.

The port was established in 1685 and served as China's main international trading checkpoint, where foreign ships needed licenses before doing business in Guangzhou. This gatekeeping role made it central to the region's trade networks of that era.

The exhibition hall at the site displays maritime artifacts and trade documents that show how merchants lived and worked during the port's busiest years. You can see how this place brought people from different regions together and shaped exchange networks.

You can reach the location by taking metro line 8 or 4 to Wanshengwei station and then switching to a local bus to reach the village. Walking paths are easy to navigate, and visiting early in the morning or late afternoon offers a more peaceful experience.

The village is known for a special ginger milk dessert where hot ginger juice makes fresh milk solidify instantly into a smooth pudding. This local specialty developed from available ingredients and has remained a signature dish passed down through generations.
