Leung King Estate, Home Ownership Scheme housing estate in Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong.
Leung King Estate is a residential development with eight apartment blocks containing around 3,479 units spread across the northwestern part of Tuen Mun District. The buildings are arranged around shared courtyards and pedestrian areas with shops and services at ground level.
The estate was built in 1988 on the site of the former Leung Tin Village, marking the shift from a rural settlement to a modern housing development. This transformation reflected Hong Kong's expansion into the New Territories during that period.
The residential buildings are named after members of the Leung family, a custom that connects the estate to its roots in the area. Residents walk through courtyards and passages that link these blocks together, creating a sense of community within the larger development.
The estate is well connected by public transport, with Leung King Light Rail Station nearby and many bus routes serving the area. Walking around the site is straightforward as the layout is relatively flat and organized in a logical pattern.
In 2001, residents were given the opportunity to purchase their rented apartments through the Tenants Purchase Scheme, transforming many into homeowners. This program represented a significant shift in housing policy for Hong Kong at that time.
