Lam Tei Quarry

Lam Tei Quarry is a working stone extraction site in Tuen Mun with a series of stepped levels descending into the earth. The high walls reveal layers of exposed rock, and operations continue to extract materials used throughout the construction industry in the region.

Operations began in 1982, extracting rock materials for construction projects across Hong Kong. The ongoing extraction has significantly shaped the landscape of the area over several decades.

The site demonstrates Hong Kong's industrial development, providing essential aggregate materials that meet 50 percent of the region's construction requirements.

This is an active industrial site located north of Tuen Mun New Town, and access may be restricted due to ongoing operations. Plan a visit with awareness of the working nature of the location.

When extraction ends, extensive restoration plans will transform the quarry into new habitat and green space matching the surrounding landscape. This rehabilitation project shows how industrial sites can return to nature.
