南區左岸, Residential complex in Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong.
Marina South, known in Chinese as 南區左岸, is a residential complex made up of two high-rise towers on Ap Lei Chau island, on the southern side of Hong Kong. The towers face the sea, with views toward Ocean Park and the open water beyond the island's southern shore.
The land on which the complex stands was sold in 2012 at a record price for residential floor space on Hong Kong Island at that time. That transaction drew wide attention and helped set a new benchmark for property values in the southern district.
The name of the complex, translated as "South District Left Bank," evokes the famous riverside neighborhood in Paris, a common strategy in Hong Kong's property market to give a project a cosmopolitan image. Visitors walking through the grounds will notice that the design and landscaping lean into this European reference, with open walkways and waterfront-facing terraces.
Ap Lei Chau is an island connected to the Aberdeen area by a bridge, so getting there requires some advance planning, particularly if you are relying on public transport. The southern part of the island where the complex sits is quieter and less served than the more central parts of Hong Kong.
Each tower is designed so that individual apartments have their own elevator lobby rather than sharing a common corridor with neighbors on the same floor. This setup means that when you step off the elevator, you are already in a private entrance area rather than a shared hallway.
