Laohua Mosque

Laohua Mosque is a religious center in Linxia that blends Chinese and Islamic architectural elements throughout its design. The buildings feature curved roofs and decorative patterns that merge traditional Chinese forms with Islamic religious requirements.

The site was founded in 1368 during the Ming Dynasty and underwent major changes over the centuries that followed. A fire destroyed the original structure in 1928, leading to reconstruction of the complex in 1941.

The mosque serves as a gathering place where the local Hui Muslim community comes together for prayer and celebration. Visitors can experience how Islamic practices have become woven into daily life in this region.

The complex covers a large area and contains multiple buildings with prayer halls designed to accommodate hundreds of visitors. The layout is organized to support religious services and various community activities.

The structure shows an unusual blend of Ming-era Chinese architecture and Islamic design principles that rarely appears in this form. This combination allowed religious requirements to be met while respecting local building traditions.
