五泉山建筑群, Historical architectural complex in Lanzhou, China
The Wuquanshan Complex spreads across a forested hillside with multiple stone temples positioned at different elevations throughout the terrain. The buildings connect via stairways and pathways that wind between them, with natural springs feeding water through the site.
Multiple temples were built over several centuries at this site, initially for Buddhist practitioners and later expanded with Daoist structures. This layering of construction reflects how the place evolved as a shared religious sanctuary across changing periods.
The temples here served worshippers from different faiths who shared the same sacred space for centuries, blending their separate practices within the same buildings. Visitors can see how the layout accommodates both Buddhist and Daoist traditions side by side.
The site sits on a mountainside, so wear comfortable shoes and expect many staircases during your visit. The best times to come are during milder months when paths are dry and temperatures are not too extreme.
Water from the five springs was once directed through underground channels beneath the temples to supply ritual washing areas. Visitors can still spot traces of these ancient water systems woven into the site's layout.
