Wetter

Wetter is a town in the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis region where the Ruhr River flows through and divides the community into different districts. The landscape sits at approximately 110 meters elevation and is shaped by the riverbanks and surrounding hills.

Friedrich Harkort founded the first industrial workshop at Castle Wetter in 1819, producing steam engines and gas lighting equipment for regional manufacturers. This establishment marked the beginning of the town's industrial growth.

The Henriette Davidis Museum presents exhibits about the city's most famous cookbook author, showing historical kitchen equipment and culinary documentation from different eras. Visitors can see how her work shaped cooking traditions across German-speaking regions.

The town is well-connected by road and rail, with direct access to Dortmund and Bochum roughly 20 minutes away. Visitors can easily navigate between different districts and tap into regional transport networks.

Lake Harkort offers a starting point for outdoor activities and connects several regional lakes through walking, cycling, and skating paths. This body of water is also popular with water sports enthusiasts and links natural and historical sites.
