Herschel bath, Art Nouveau public bath in Mannheim, Germany
The Herschelbad features three indoor swimming pools within its grand architectural structure, displaying early 20th-century construction methods and design elements.
In 1905, merchant Bernhard Herschel donated half a million gold marks to construct this public bath, which opened in 1920 after delays from World War I.
The building represents the German bathing tradition, with separate pools designated for public swimming, educational programs, and specialized swimming courses.
The facility includes three distinct indoor pools: the largest serves the general public, while two others accommodate schools and swimming organizations.
The second pool features a glass dome ceiling, incorporating natural light into the swimming area through its architectural design.
