Dortmund Schultenhof, building in Dortmund, Germany
Dortmund Schultenhof is a historic brick farmstead building in Dortmund protected as an architectural monument. Today the property hosts an organic farm with housing for about 26 people with disabilities, a farm shop, a cafe, animal enclosures, and crop fields managed without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
The Schultenhof was established long ago as a farmstead and dwelling, now protected as a historical monument. Its transformation into a social project by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt organization shows how the site evolved from a traditional farm operation into a modern community initiative focused on ecological practices.
The name reflects its role as both a farmstead and living space where community and work merge. Visitors can observe how residents with and without disabilities share daily tasks and life together in this working ecological farm.
The site sits easily accessible south of central Dortmund in the Bolmke area and is typically open to visitors on most days. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are spacious and best explored on foot, especially if you want to see the fields and visit the animals.
The grounds are home to two gentle donkeys named Joschi and Paul that visitors can pet and walk with through the fields and adjacent nature reserve. These direct animal interactions make the Schultenhof a particularly interactive place for families and nature lovers.
