Mystery Castle, Indoor drop tower in Phantasialand Brühl, Germany
Mystery Castle is a drop tower attraction in Phantasialand that functions as a walkable building with gondolas mounted along the interior walls. The concrete structure reaches a height of approximately 65 meters.
The attraction opened in 1998 after seven months of construction using innovative Air-Drive technology from Intamin. This technology influenced how similar drop tower attractions would be built afterward.
The castle tells the story of the Windhoven family through costumes and decorations that visitors encounter as they move through the space. Staff members dressed as supernatural characters reinforce the medieval setting throughout the experience.
The drop tower carries up to 48 visitors per ride and reaches speeds of 72 kilometers per hour. Three different intensity programs run throughout the day to suit different preferences.
Hidden inside are mystical vaults, an ancestral gallery, and a chemistry laboratory that visitors discover as they pass through. At the exit, a Baroque garden offers a sharp contrast to the dark castle interior.
